Boschrooms for Cor Unum Ceramics

Boschroom M-low on pink-DavidDerksenDesign

Commissioned by Cor Unum Ceramics, David Derksen was asked to design a new piece in the theme of Jheronimus Bosch, a painter from the 15th century. His work is known for the fantastic imagery and he seems to have taken his inspiration from nature when he was creating his sometimes hallucinating paintings. Born as Jheronimus van Aken, he changed his last name to Bosch, after the city of Den Bosch, meaning ‘at the forest’. The paper lampshades owe their structure to different ways of pleating. Each of the three models is based on a different way of folding thereby giving each it’s own character. (more…)

The surface is almost transparent, making objects behind it visible. The lamps seem to be nothing but a thin shell.

It has become a one-dimensional material, that is often applied as a skin that sells the product. However, there is much more to say about this intriguing material than that it is simply beautiful.
